Wake watches Kanoff
Wake Forest quarterbacks coach Tom Elrod followed offensive line coach Jonathan Himebauch's trip to North Hollywood, CA with one of his own on Tuesday, May 15 to watch Harvard Westlake quarterback Chad Kanoff throw.
"I talked to him [Elrod] a little bit," Kanoff said. "That was the last time I talked with anyone from Wake Forest."
Himebauch was the head coach at Harvard Westlake in 2005 before leaving to coach the offensive line at San Diego State University, which is the only other school along with Vanderbilt to offer Kanoff a scholarship.
"It was cool to meet him [Himebauch]," Kanoff said. "People credit him with turning around the program. People say he's an awesome coach."
The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder, who is rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, said he hears the most from the Commodores.
"It's [relationship with Vanderbilt's coaches] really good," Kanoff said. "I talked with the quarterback coach [Ricky Rahne] a lot. He's a really good guy. The head coach [James Franklin] is awesome, and so is the offensive coordinator [John Donovan]."
Kanoff, who describes himself as a dual-threat quarterback, passed for 2,646 yards, 28 touchdowns and five interceptions last season. He is also receiving interest from Minnesota, Purdue and Syracuse.
The Golden State product added that proximity will not be a significant factor in his decision-making process.
