CavsCorner.com - Sanders ready for step up in competition

When Laderice Sanders committed to TCU last year, he knew that things were going to be just fine. He no longer had the stress of trying to figure out how to pay for college or trying to figure out where he would go. When TCU offered him, he knew it was the place for him. Now it's time to reprt to campus and Sanders talked to us about the emotions he's felt leading up to this point.

"All I wanted to do was get a scholarship so that I could go to school" said Sanders as he reflected back to when TCU offered. "When TCU offered, I knew that's where I wanted to go. To have the school that has the number one defense in the country offer you a scholarship, it made me feel good about the way I played."

With TCU sitting less than 30 minutes from the Arlington High School campus, Sanders discussed the support he's received from friends and family about his decision.

"My friends and everyone around here say they are going to support me and come to the games" he said. "I had a couple of friends that bought me TCU shirts and a hat, they all seem excited for me."

With the step up in competition, Sanders knows that he has to prepare every day so that he can see the field as soon as possible.

"I've been working really hard and I know the TCU coaches are happy with my weight" said Sanders. "I'm weighing 230 pounds right now but I'm just working on my running trying to be in the best shape I can be in. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. The competition is going to be much better at this level but I'm ready to get out there and see how I compete. I played with a chip on my shoulder this past year to prove that I deserved that scholarship and I'm going to play the same way once I get to TCU."

While Sanders would like to start as a freshman, he knows his best chance to get on the field this coming season is on special teams. Even if he has to redshirt, Sanders says he'll be ready when his name is called. He also knows that this opportunity to go to school will help him down a path of law enforcement. Sanders says he wants to be a polce officer if his NFL dreams never materialize.

"I really want to graduate with my degree in criminal justice and I want to be a police officer" he said. "Of course I would love to play in the NFL but I want my degree no matter what."

Sanders comes in as a member of the most heralded class of recruits in the Gary Patterson era. If his class can equal the success of the last few classes that have proceeded his, the Frogs cold find themselves in a title game in the very near future.
