1. Quin Blanding (February 27, 2013)
What a way to start a recruiting class. Blanding's pledge in February created national headlines for the Cavaliers and cause recruits everywhere to take notice. The 6-foot-2, 206-pound safety is the top-ranked prospect at his position and the No. 4 prospect nationally.
2. Steven Moss (March 24, 2013
We've been saying for two years that Moss is one of the top linemen the state has produced in recent memory so he was a huge pick-up for the Cavaliers. Rated as a Rivals100 prospect, Moss has helped as an aggressive recruiter since pledging to the Hoos.
3. Gary Wunderlich (April 9, 2013)
Rarely is a kicker a glamorous commitment but not too many have the honor of being ranked the top-ranked kicker in the nation. That's Wunderlich. The 6-foot, 180-pound specialist can do it all with his leg and could compete for early time.
4. J.J. Jackson (April 21, 2013)
With Jeremiah Clarke, Da'Shawn Hand and Jalyn Holmes going elsewhere, defensive end became a very big need for UVa. Enter Jackson, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound prospect that looks like a linebacker/defensive end, pass-rushing hybrid that the Virginia coaches have been impressed with since early this year. He doesn't have the longest offer sheet but the staff apparently feels good about their evaluation here. Where he's ultimately slotted depends on how he grows and develops but he'll likely start out at outside linebacker.
5. Will Richardson (May 25, 2013)
Few prospects in the nation have undergone such a positive body transformation as Richardson over the past year. Once there were fears that he might be carrying too much bad weight. He heard those concerns and now his physique and build is excellent. He held offers from Florida State, NC State and many others.
6. Caanan Brown (May 29, 2013)
The Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic defensive end/linebacker hails from a part of Florida the Cavaliers would love to tap into, so he brings that added bonus. Whether he plays end or linebacker, he's a physical, hard-hitting presence that's a throwback kind of player.
7. Jordan Ellis (June 7, 2013)
It's tough to recruit a position when you signed a five-star at that spot in the previous class as UVa did with Taquan Mizzell. But Ellis welcomes the challenge and the 5-foot-10, 210-pound back brings a lot to the table. Wisconsin, Kansas State and several others were catching on to Ellis just before he committed to the Wahoos.
8. Evan Butts (June 23, 2013)
Butts is listed as a defensive end but he's going to be a tight end for the Hoos, so he helps address an important position of emphasis in this class. He worked out for the Cavaliers in person this summer and showed that he can run good routes, has good hands, and even can be a long snapper in the future.
