A year ago, UVa was coming off of two nice wins before heading to Atlanta and getting blown out by Georgia Tech. This season, the Jackets come to Charlottesville a week after blowing out another orange-and-blue squad at home. And when they do, they'll Cavaliers team that needs a win in the worst way.
The Yellow Jackets (4-3, 3-2 ACC) snapped a three-game losing streak in that 56-0 win over Syracuse last weekend. They outgained the Orange 482 yards to 208 and put up 394 yards on the ground. Overall, they rank as one of the county's top five rushing attacks and are averaging more yards of total offense per game than when they made it into the BCS four years ago.
UVa (2-5, 0-3) will be facing a Georgia Tech team that has three total losses on the year to teams with a combined 17-3 record, though the Cavaliers did beat a BYU team that defeated the Jackets later in the season.
After losing a 22-0 lead to Duke (which Georgia Tech handled 38-14 in Durham), UVa comes into the game on Saturday having given up 35 straight points.
And as much as the focus on this game will be on coach Paul Johnson and the triple-option offense he runs at Georgia Tech, the team's defense is noteworthy, too. The Jackets are seventh nationally in 3rd-down defense and have a pair of shutouts this season for the first time since the 1980s.
As is our custom during game week, we've looked at the Georgia Tech's roster and picked out five players to keep an eye on as this game unfolds on Saturday in Charlottesville.
