For three-star ATH Theork, picking the Cavaliers was an easy decision

Unlike many of UVa's nine recent commits in the class of 2018, three-star wide receiver Wooby Theork didn't go into his visit expecting to commit to the Cavaliers. But after being on Grounds and seeing everything for himself, the decision was something he came to quickly.

And now, his focus can finally shift away from the recruiting process.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound receiver had offers from Arizona, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Purdue, Rutgers, South Florida, UCF, and Western Kentucky, among others before committing to Bronco Mendenhall and the Wahoos last week.

"I wasn't really worried about it much all that much," he said of the process. "I was just doing it my way and not really worrying. Then things started falling into place, schools started coming in, and it went from there."

"It was kind of stressful to me," Theork added. "I had all of these schools I knew I'd have to choose from and I really wanted to commit early so I did that. I made that decision so I didn't have to worry about anything else. I just wanted to be able to finish my high school career strong and keep my grades up."

In town that weekend for his visit, the Naples (FL) native says he didn't arrive with the expectation that a commitment was imminent.

"I really didn't think that, actually," he told CavsCorner. "I honestly didn't. My mindset was really just to check out the school and see what I thought. And it was a great visit, great school. The coaching staff was amazing, the campus was really beautiful, and I just fell in love with it. It's great academically too and I really wanted to go somewhere that had great academics.

"I got to walk around the campus and see where the players eat and things like that," Theork added. "I got to talk to some of the players and they seemed like really funny guys. I liked them a lot."

There wasn't any one moment that things sort of clicked for him but rather the way the entire visit came together. And that's where his decision came from.

"I went to the camp and I got to work with the wide receivers coach, Coach (Marques) Hagans, and it was a really great experience," he recalled. "After the camp, I knew I had enjoyed everything and the coaching staff was amazing. So when Coach Bronco brought me into his office and we talked, it was so welcoming and after that, I talked to my dad and my mom and my two brothers and sisters, I got back home and I made my decision."

Along with fellow three-star receiver Tavares Kelly, three-star offensive lineman Martin Weisz, and three-star quarterback Wyatt Rector, Theork is one of several commits from the Sunshine State.

"Yeah, it's pretty great," he said. "I've talked to some of them, especially Martin. He put me in the group chat with 2018 commits so it's been cool getting to know them all."

As he moves forward, Theork said his focus will continue to be on getting better and spending time with his team now that the recruiting process is behind him.

"Right now, I'm just looking forward to helping my team advance in the playoffs and win a state title," he said. "I just want to lead my area in receiving yards and just be a great leader for my team this season."
