6-foot-6, 200 pounds
Rankings:Two-star (5.4)
Other offers: In addition to Virginia, Carter held an offer from Temple.
How he chose UVa: Carter committed to Virginia on December 22, after visiting Charlottesville earlier in the month. The 6-foot-6 defensive end had been committed to Temple but had a change of heart after his official visit to UVa.
Carter attends high school in Pennsylvania but grew up in Portsmouth and that played a role in him choosing to sign with the Wahoos. Though his decision to flip his commitment was somewhat sudden, it was clear after his official visit that he knew where he wanted to be.
When he committed to Mike London and the Hoos, Carter cited academics as a major contributing factor. The future DE plans on majoring in finance or accounting once he's on Grounds. Of note, Carter is one of two UVa signees from the Keystone State, joining tight end Evan Butts.
Why he matters: Virginia desperately needed to bolster its depth chart at defensive end, so Carter fills a need there. That is a big reason why UVa went out and offered several players that were previously committed to other schools at that position.
As a senior, Carter recorded 65 tackles, 11 sacks and 14 pass breakups. His size and athleticism is exactly what Jon Tenuta looks for in his pass rushers.
Although Carter will almost certainly redshirt as a freshman to add size to his 200-pound frame, he has a chance to make a big impact as an edge rusher in Tenuta's aggressive scheme in the years to come.
